When we were young I’m sure we all had dreams of having superpowers. Some of us probably wanted to have super strength; some super speed; some the ability of flight; to walk through walls; to hear what people are thinking; to move objects with our minds; to shape change; and so on. I’m sure there may be some people who did not fall into that category, but I’m talking about the ones that did. We all had different dreams of doing different things when we grow up, but pretty much all of us wanted to have some kind of a special power and we all wanted to be heroes.

My question to you all is, what happened? Do you think our 5-year old selves, 6-year old selves, or maybe even as high up as our 10 or 12-year old selves might be disappointed in us by now? We wanted to have the ability to save the world, to save others. We wanted to be firemen, and policemen; we wanted to be heroes. Some of us have followed through with that dream but have the rest of us done the same?

I feel like there is a transition period between our young naïve age and our old experienced age. That’s when we realize that we want to help ourselves only and not the rest of the world. Is that really what our life has turned to?

If you’re waiting to be bitten by a radioactive spider then I would say you might be waiting for a dream that may never come. You don’t need to wait for that though. Here’s a secret, you don’t need superpowers to be a superhero. You don’t need to be a billionaire to fight the Jokers of the world. You don’t need to be from another planet to give the world hope.

Each and every one of us is special, endowed with unimaginable blessings, gifted with unparalleled strength. I’m not talking about the ability to lift a car with our bare hands whenever we feel like it, but the potential to move mountains when we truly desire something. Where there is a will, there is a way. That is everyone’s true super power.

When we truly believe in something and we desire it with all our strength, we can always achieve it or find something better along the way. Someone once wanted to fly, they made a plane, now we can all fly. Someone wanted to swim to the depths of the ocean, they made a submarine, now we can travel underwater. Someone wanted to talk to people in the other corner of the world, they made a phone. Someone missed the woman they love, who lived thousands of miles away, they biked all the way across the continents to get to them. People have done incredible things and they are all heroes because they used our greatest collected superpower; the human will. With that, they invented amazing things to help others, they did incredible things to inspire others, and they never gave up their dream. That’s what we need to do. That’s what we all need to do.
