“For each person, there is a purpose in this world. Let yours be the doing of all good things.” The first time I heard this phrase was when I was watching the Robin Hood TV Series by BBC. I don’t need to go too much into detail about the series itself except that it was one of my favorite TV Shows. It filled me with a lot of “feels”. There were so many life lessons in that one show, but the quote above was the best one.
I don’t know about you, but it really helped me define the kind of person that I want to be. A lot of us struggle with finding a purpose for ourselves. Don’t you ever think that there is more to this life than being born, growing old, going to work, having a family, and then dying? I certainly do. As a matter of fact, I spend countless days every year trying to figure out if I am living my life that way that I am supposed to. It doesn’t matter how we came into existence except that we are here now. What matters is what we do with the limited time that we have available. Do we join the rat race, follow the crowd, and just stumble through? Or is there a higher purpose guiding us towards something more meaningful? I personally believe that there is. We all have our beliefs and I could say that we are all entitled to live our life the way that we want to. After all, there is such a thing as free will.
The question then becomes, what do you do with your free will? Once again, we can choose what kind of a life we wish to lead. I believe that no matter what we do with our time here, it should be something good. By that, I don’t mean having chocolate for dinner instead of actual food. I mean it should be something good for the world; for everyone and everything around us. For example, you make food. Make a little extra every now and then for your roommates or neighbors. Or maybe you’re crossing the street and see someone that needs help; help them out. Be nice, be kind, be caring, be a person of the world, do something good.
Of course, we can’t do something good all the time. We’re all human, we’re not perfect. Mistakes happen, accidents happen. However, if you start trying to make yourself better, the amount of accidents will lessen with every passing deed. If you work to make yourself nicer, every day will seem more beautiful. If you open your heart and let others in, the world will open itself for you. Whatever you put out in the world, will always come back for you tenfold. The more good you do, the more good you’ll receive in return. It’s a win-win in my books.
I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Please let me know what you think about our purpose in life and how you would approach the idea of doing good in the world.
